Senior Software Engineer, SWE Program Tools
Full job description
Apple is where individual imaginations gather together, committing to the values that lead to great work. Every new product we build, service we create, or Apple Store experience we deliver is the result of us making each other's ideas stronger. That happens because every one of us shares a belief that we can make something wonderful and share it with the world, changing lives for the better. It's the diversity of our people and their thinking that inspires the innovation that runs through everything we do. When we bring everybody in, we can do the best work of our lives. Here, you'll do more than join something — you'll add something. There are more than two billion active Apple devices worldwide and we are striving for a billion more. Come join a small team of highly-focused engineers who are working to make that possible. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work on internal applications and services that play a critical role in how Apple develops and delivers high-quality operating systems.
Description
As an engineer on our team, you will lead the design, development, and evolution of applications that empower the day-to-day work of tens of thousands of Apple employees. You'll balance hands-on coding with architectural leadership — designing systems, mentoring engineers, reviewing contributions, and driving technical decisions across projects.
We obsess over the user experience. We strongly value creative problem-solving and continuous improvement. When we find a great technical or process solution, we adopt and adapt it across our projects. Being disciplined about our day-to-day work gives us the freedom to respond flexibly and creatively to new challenges.
This role is for a seasoned engineer with strong problem-solving skills, commitment to quality, and a track record of delivering impactful results across complex projects. Our work requires significant interaction with our users, cross-functional partners, and leaders across Apple, so excellent communication and collaboration skills are required in addition to technical skills.
Minimum Qualifications
5+ years of professional software engineering experience
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience
Expertise in one or more modern programming languages (e.g. Swift, Rust, TypeScript, Go)
Track record of owning shipped features end to end, from problem definition through release and post-release iteration
Experience gathering requirements directly from users such as by interviewing users, leading usability sessions, or serving as the primary engineering contact for a group of users
Uses agentic AI coding tools regularly; critically reviews, verifies, and debugs AI-generated code, and can judge where AI-assisted workflows do and don't improve team productivity
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, experienced collaborating with teams across a wide range of disciplines and technologies
Preferred Qualifications
Experience establishing and raising the bar for engineering practices: defining standards for collaboration, testing strategies, CI/CD pipelines — and coaching the team to sustain them
Experience driving systemic improvements to developer or employee productivity: building and evangelizing tooling, automation, or process changes that are adopted broadly
Strong proficiency with Apple frameworks and development workflows
Familiar with modern observability tooling and approaches (e.g. OpenTelemetry)
